WCAX TV: Growing Gardens in Mad River!
Posted on June 26th, 2008 by Rob Williams
It is always nice to see the mainstream news media focus on positive and solutions-oriented new stories, instead of “if it bleeds, it leads” fare.
Check out this WCAX story on growing gardens in the Mad River Valley.
Robin McDermott, Troy Kingsbury, and Dave and Chatham Barnett are among our featured neighbors.

Kudos to all your green thumbs!
Great to see the Waitsfield School Garden featured as a demonstration site of the MRV’s relocalization efforts in the MRV. Both of Dave and Chatham’s children were part of creating this year’s school garden and I know their experiences inspired the cultivation of a home garden. Schools can be agents of change and innovation in the community, if they are perceived—and actualized—as such. How can the Valley Futures vision be tied into our education system in the MRV?
I agree, Kristen.
If we can get our kids beyond standardized testing alone and into the garden to get their hands dirty and their minds growing, we’ll all be the better for it.
I applaud your hard work in the garden this year, with the support of Dr. Schattman, the school’s many teachers, and Bear Simmons, Kirsten Siebert, and the PTA.
The garden has never looked better.
Grow, food, grow -
