Agriculture
The Valley Agriculture Group’s mission is to champion a diversified, local production of food for our community, which we believe essential to long-term sustainability in the Mad River Valley. A strong local food system will not only contribute to the economic viability of our community, but it will also support a healthier diet and reduce our carbon footprint by reducing the use of fossil fuels to transport food to our community from far away places.

Initiatives
- The Agriculture Group worked to determine community and farm uses of the Kingsbury Community Farm. Through a community driven process, the farm was purchased by the Vermont Foodbank in 2009.
- In order to create greater awareness in the community about our farming community, the Agriculture Group created a series of articles in the Valley Reporter, each spotlighting a specific farm family. The purpose of this series was to raise awareness about our community’s production of local foods, and about our farmers and their needs and aspirations.
- Through the efforts of the Localvores, numerous agricultural based workshops have taken place throughout the Valley. Over 25 events took place in 2008.
