Local Currency
The Valley Local Currency Group’s mission is to build a local currency program in the Mad River Valley. By exploring successful local currency and “time dollar” programs implemented by other communities in both Vermont and globally, we hope to create the foundation for a successful program in Mad River Valley.
As of January 2010, Rootswork will be launching a MRV “time dollar” pilot project. 2010 is expected to be a steady building year to get to a critical mass of participants. The Mad River Time Bank is envisioned as an organized system to exchange services, using “Community Weaver” software provided by timebanks.org. The initiative will be similar to the Onion River Exchange in Montpelier. The Onion River Exchange has grown from 35 members to over 300 in 28 towns.
